Ok, so today I don't really have anything that has come to mind to piss me off. Then again, I have yet to play a Call of Duty game, so fingers crossed.... Anyway, I just thought I would write today about people's fear of trying new things. In this instance, I am speaking about music. There are a lot of people living in the dark about some not very known bands that are roaming round. I guess in this case I seem to be only reffering to metal music but it's amazing the amount of people who will shun metal music away and not even try getting into it. There are usually a couple of different reasons for this.
One reason is usually because they are a "cool" kid and they are terrified of their friends thinking any different of them and becoming less popular if they listen to something other than the crowd are listening to. This deludes people into thinking they have to listen to what everyone else is listening to because they fear they may be ridiculed for it.
Another reason is that they will moan and bitch about how there is no talent in the music I like (Metal), when there really is much talent in some of the music they listen to. At the end of the day, as my friend once said, music is an art form in itself and I am one to admit when a piece of music is good no matter what the genre. I like all kinds of music.
I used to be a self centred chav with one taste in music and that was rap. My friend used to listen to metal music and used to constantly mock him for it and tell him "it's just screaming it's crap". Over the past couple of years my eyes were opened to a HUGE library of music hidden within the Metal genre, and I have even showed my friend a couple of bands he may not of heard before. There is probably still so many undiscovered talent out there that not many people appreciate. What I have noticed is that whatever song is played numnerous times to somebody, no matter what the genre, it will catch on and stick in their head.
If you wanted to get into metal music at all and maybe broaden your tastes, there are a couple of ways that helped me. One was the Guitar Hero series. Aside from a lot of indie songs and not very heavy songs there are al lot of good heavy songs on those games and they really open your eyes to the talent that guitarists posess in some bands. Thus, when you play the song and enjoy yourself, you end up liking the song, like me. Then you go on to research the band and find more songs by them.
Also, a good one for me was Spotify, I simply searched in "Metal" and found a whole range of different songs. There are many sub-genres in metal like power metal, battle metal, death metal, melodic metal, nu metal and many more. It's insane how many times I come accross a band I have never heard before, and enjoy their songs.
Another way, for me, was Last FM on the Xbox 360. Now this program is sweet. You search in a band and it gives you endless playlists of bands that are a similar style to the band you searched in. I have found so many new songs from Last FM and people always shun it out and say "I want to listen to what I search!!!", to these people I say, shut up.
You can also discover new songs by hearing it on a game soundtrack or on a movie soundtrack. For me, Burnout Paradise, introduced me to Killswitch Engage. Halo 2 introduced me to Breaking Benjamin. Myself I see no point in liking songs just because other people like them, which is what a lot of people like music for, and to me it seems like the wrong reason, and then these people instantly judge and ridicule people for having different tastes. That's lunacy. You don't pick on somebody because they like carrots and you don't. You don't insult somebody because you watch Eastenders and they watch Coronation street? It's all the same. Music is music and where there is talent it deserves to be appreciated. I find the mainstream music these days is getting boring and old. Same shit repeated over and over again with lazy song writers writing songs that mean nothing just to get rich and famous, and maybe show off some boobs on TV.
Anyway, I believe that is me done for the day. I guess my final words should be, don't judge people just because of different tastes that they have, they may be a hell of a nice person inside. Unless they give you a reason to perceive them as a bad person or something severe.
I gotta go take a leak.
Daryl Out.
